Alarm bells for RCB as star all-rounder suffers injury scare ahead of IPL 2024

The English all-rounder was a late addition to RCB roster during the IPL 2024 auction in December 2023, signed at his base price of Rs. 1.5 crore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL 2024 hopes have hit a potential roadblock before the tournament even begins. Star all-rounder Tom Curran, recently snagged for his base price at IPL Auction by RCB, has suffered a knee injury in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The extent of the injury is unknown, casting a shadow over Tom Curran’s availability for upcoming stint with the Desert Vipers in the ILT20. The injury occurred during the Sydney Sixers’ recent match against the Melbourne Stars, forcing Curran to miss the final two regular-season games as the team aims to secure a spot in the finals.

Curran’s injury couldn’t come at a worse time for RCB. Acquired as a potential solution to their all-rounder woes, his absence disrupts their carefully crafted plans. While he hasn’t set the IPL stage alight in the past, his recent BBL performances, including a 3-wicket haul against Hobart Hurricanes, hinted at his growing skills.

Tom Curran late addition to RCB for IPL 2024

The English all-rounder was a late addition to RCB roster during the IPL 2024 auction in December 2023, signed at his base price of Rs. 1.5 crore. Although his IPL journey began with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, he has failed to make a significant impact in previous seasons with Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.

While RCB secured valuable additions like Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph, the uncertain form of Tom Curran raises questions about his role in the team. With the IPL just around the corner, RCB must navigate the challenges posed by Curran’s injury and strategize to maintain the team’s competitive edge.

Hayden Kerr, who has impressed this BBL season, could be brought in as a replacement for the Sixers. However, RCB options for the IPL are less clear.
