Rahane to miss Leicestershire’s last two County games due to niggle, at risk of missing Irani Cup tie

Ajinkya Rahane will miss Leicestershire's last two County Championship games and will head back to India to prepare for the home season

Ajinkya Rahane is all set to miss the last two County Championship division 2 games for Leicestershire. The Mumbai batter has been ruled out after the club’s medical department’s assessment of niggles that Rahane is carrying. Rahane confirmed that he would miss the last two games, adding that it was now time for him to prepare for the home season.

Ajinkya Rahane to miss last two County matches

Rahane is supposed to return to action in the domestic circuit in India next as Mumbai take on Rest of India in the Irani Cup tie in Lucknow from October 1. However, Rahane’s niggles cast aspersions on his availability to play for Mumbai in the tournament. It remains to be seen if the veteran will be fit in time for the marquee clash. The match was initially scheduled to be held in Mumbai but has been moved to Lucknow owing to the monsoon in the Maharashtra capital.

Out of the favour of the Indian cricket team selectors, Rahane turned towards the County Championships and the One-Day Cup to continue playing the game. He was supposed to play the entire One-Day Cup and the Leicestershire’s final five County games. However, that has been cut short as he will miss the final two games now. The 36-year-old replaced South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder in the club.

Ajinkya Rahane brought up his 40th first-class hundred in the game against Glamorgan in the division 2 game earlier this month.
