IPL 2025: Ajinkya Rahane to go unsold in mega-auction? 3 teams that might buy the Mumbai batter

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction might see Ajinkya Rahane unsold, but teams like Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and CSK could value his experience and leadership.

The much anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction is just around the corner, set to be held in Jeddah on the 24th and 25th of November. In between the excitement, according to reports, there’s speculation that seasoned cricketer Ajinkya Rahane might go unsold. With a base price set at 1.50 crore, Rahane, recently released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the retention window, will be under the auction hammer.

Though there are concerns about his age and recent T20 stats, Ajinkya Rahane brings a wealth of experience and stability, qualities that some teams might value. Despite facing the possibility of being unsold, there are teams that could see his potential worth and buy him in the upcoming auction.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans might be one of the teams considering Rahane. The team has shown a pattern of valuing experienced players, as seen in past seasons with players like Wriddhiman Saha. Rahane could be a strategic pick for them, offering the flexibility to bat at various spots in the middle order. His experience could be crucial in anchoring the innings and guiding younger players through difficult phases.

Punjab Kings

The Punjab Kings, known for their aggressive lineup, might also see value in Rahane’s experience. With only a few retentions this auction, they have ample room to restructure. Rahane’s presence could bring much-needed stability and also offer leadership potential. While Punjab may seek a full-time captain as well, Rahane could be a strong candidate for a vice captain role or as a guiding force in their batting lineup.

Chennai Super Kings

Despite releasing him, CSK might still see a fit for Rahane in their squad. His previous stint with CSK in 2023 was notable, scoring 326 runs in 14 matches with an impressive strike rate of 172.49. This performance might prompt CSK to reconsider him as a stabilising force in their middle order. His familiarity with the team’s strategy could make him a valuable asset for anchoring the innings.
