Usually, a good domestic season with a great IPL means, an India call up for any player. Ajinkya Rahane has had both this year, so far. First he scored 469 runs in 9 matches in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament, at an average of 58, then followed it up 467 runs in the Ranji Trophy, and now in the IPL 2025, he has184 runs in 5 matches.
Ajinkya Rahane Knocks on Team India Doors
That includes two fifties as well, with the latest one coming against LSG for KKR, on Tuesday, where he blasted his way to 61 in just 35 deliveries. Does that mean that Rahane will make a comeback in the Indian side, notwithstanding the format? While the fans may be hopeful, but the veteran batter remains realistic.
He is not expecting much and only focusing on the job in hand. Speaking after a narrow loss vs Lucknow, he said, “I am really enjoying my cricket at the moment. Firstly, playing for KKR and playing at Eden, I am really enjoying. For me it is about staying in the moment, enjoy my cricket and my batting. I don’t want to think far ahead. We have a job in hand.”
Not Very Hopeful of India Comeback
As far as the clash is concerned, LSG went on to score 238 in the first innings at the Eden Gardens. Aiden Markram scored 47 from 28, followed by 81 from 48 by Mitchell Marsh, and then 87 from 36 by Nicholas Pooran. KKR fell short of the target by just four runs, scoring 234. Apart from Rahane, Sunil Narine scored 30 from 13, and Venkatesh Iyer 45 from 29.
Rinku Singh provided a late burst into the innings, where he scored 38 from 15, giving a real scare to LSG.
