Ajinkya Nayak was achieved a rare feat as he was elected as the youngest-ever president of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Nayak replaces Kale after the latter’s sudden death in the USA during the T20 World Cup. Nayak managed to get 221 votes as opposed to rival candidate Sanjay Nail’s 114, securing a victory by a 107-vote margin.

Nayak, who was the secretary for the MCA, credited Sharad Pawar for being his inspiration in cricket administration. He dedicated his victory to the late Amol Kale and vowed to carry forward the legacy left behind by Kale and his efforts to make cricket better in the city.
“I thank all the voters who voted in my favour. The victory is a testament to Amol Kale’s exemplary achievement. My efforts will be to replicate his commitment and dedication to improving the quality of Mumbai cricket and take his legacy forward,” he said.
He further noted that Mumbai cricketers were merely on temporary contract employment instead of permanent jobs. Nayak has stated that he would request government organisations and corporates to employ these cricketers.
Team India stars and Mumbai cricketers, including Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, took to their Instagram stories to congratulate Nayak on his win.
