Rising Afghanistan star Noor Ahmad has been handed a 1-year ban by the International League T20 (ILT20) for breaching his player agreement. Noor, a left-arm wrist sinner by trade, played for the Sharjah Warriors in the inaugural season of the league. Following the end of the season, the Warriors offered the spinner an extension, but the 19-year-old refused to sign.
The spinner, who plays for the Gujarat Titans in the India Premier League (IPL), did not participate in the recently concluded ILT20 2024. After he refused to sign an extension on similar terms, the Warriors went to the ILT20 to intervene in the dispute.
The league formed a three-member disciplinary committee to take a decision on the matter. After the investigation was concluded, Noor Ahmad was handed a 12-month ban from the league.
The committee had initially decided to ban the spinner for 20 months, but after learning that his agent hadn’t been fully informed about the terms of his contract and that he was a minor at the time, his ban was reduced by eight months.
