IND vs AUS – IPL 2023: A big relief for fans has come up ahead of India vs Australia Indore Test. A week after it started, the deadlock between some of the top broadcasters in the nation and cable companies has been resolved. The broadcasters Disney-Star, Sony, and Zee decided to turn on TV signals in 25 million homes by Friday during a private meeting on Thursday in New Delhi. Earlier, over 40 million homes were on the edge of missing out on not just the Border Gavaskar Trophy but also the live IPL broadcast. Follow Indian Premier League LIVE with InsideSport.IN

Broadcasters ceased supplying feed to the majority of cable carriers, with the exception of Siti Cable.

In the Thursday meeting as per Business Standard, members of the All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) were also present. The Federation assured broadcasters of signing revised interconnection offers or tariff agreements.

Recall that in November 2022, NTO 2.0 (now termed NTO 3.0) was updated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which oversees both the telecommunications and broadcast industries. This change raised the price cap for a TV channel that is a part of a bouquet from Rs 12 to Rs 19.

Cable operators and broadcasters got into a spat over this, with the former saying the channel price increase would be excessive and the latter saying it would only be 5–15%.

It’s notable that the promise to sign revised price agreements was made at the same time that the Kerala High Court is considering the dispute between cable providers and broadcasters regarding the third iteration of the new tariff order (NTO).

According to industry insiders, this order has been in effect since February 1 and has the support of several cable carriers as well as direct-to-home operators.

Major cable providers including Hathway, GTPL, and Den, which are all controlled by Reliance Industries, as well as NXTDigital, a member of the Hinduja group, and Asianet Digital, a member of the Rajan Raheja group, had not, however, signed the amended rate agreements with broadcasters.

Signals were cut off in 45 million homes at the beginning of the standoff last week, according to AIDCF. This number later dropped to 25 million homes as some regional cable operators, including Kerala Communicators Cable in Kochi and UCN in Pune, switched sides and agreed to sign revised tariff agreements with the broadcasters, it is reliably learned.

With AIDCF and the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF)  have now officially resolved their dispute, cable consumers can resume enjoying their favourite shows on Star, Sony, and Zee once the signals are turned on.
