Speaking after the match, he said, “When it counted, we played really well. We could have really driven the game, didn’t have our best couple of days and let India closer back in. For the most parts, we were in control.”

“Everyone just did their role really well. Coming off after a bit of a break for most of us. When it counted, everyone kind of switched on and got us key breakthroughs. We will savour this for a few days before we turn out attention to the Ashes,” he added.

Cummins lost the toss and was put into bat first by India on a green top wicket amid overcast conditions early on on Day 1. Speaking on it he added, “We made the most of it (losing the toss). We were certainly going to bowl. The way Travis and Smithy put on that partnership, gave us the comfort after a nervy morning.”

Travis Head scored an unbeaten 163 in the first innings that was crucial to the team’s success. Cummins has special words of praise for the southpaw who was adjudges player of the match.

“He has been brilliant throughout the campaign. It started with the Ashes couple of years ago. He just puts the pressure right back on the bowlers and suddenly you are thinking about how to contain runs rather than taking wickets. We left day one feeling like we were on top of the game.”

He also called pacer Scott Boland his favourite players. The right-arm pacer picked two crucial wickets on the final day paving the way for the win. “Scotty Boland is now my favourite player. He always has been, but he just continues to be my favourite.

Cummins also had special words for Test Cricket. “The victory is huge. You ask anyone at our change room. This is our favourite format. We grew up watching Test cricket. We love it. It challenges you in many ways that any other format. I thing when you win it, it is the format you get most satisfaction with. Absolutely we love playing it.”

With this win, Australia also created history by becoming the first cricketing nation to win all the ICC trophies. Australia already had five 50-over world cup trophies, two Champions Trophy titles, and a T20I trophy, which they won just in 2021.
