Young pacer Harshit Rana got his much-awaited India Cricket Team T20I debut in Pune. The young pacer also proved to be instrumental in helping India to win the match and thereby seal the series. However, Harshit Rana’s entry into the game was not as clean as possible. He was brought in as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube. Rana later revealed that he was informed 2 overs after Dube walked back to the dugout.
When Shivam Dube returned back to the dugout, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir asked the young pacer to get ready within 2 overs to take the field. Rana also revealed that it was then that Gambhir informed him that he would serve as the concussion substitute in the game.
“It is still a dream debut for me. When Dube came back (to the dugout), after two overs I was informed by sir (Gambhir) I will be the concussion substitute. It is not just for this series; I have been waiting for an opportunity for a long time, and I wanted to prove I belong here. I have bowled well in the IPL and was just following the same here,” Rana told the broadcasters after the game.
Shivam Dube on the other hand flourished with the bat. He smashed a delightful fifty off just 34 deliveries. But he was hit on the helmet by a bouncer by Jamie Overton. After Dube was run out, India opted to field Ramandeep Singh as the substitute fielder. But then the move happened.

After the powerplay, India brought on Harshit Rana into the field as the concussion substitute for Shivam Dube. Meanwhile, Ramandeep too left the field. And Rana did deliver. He picked a three-wicket haul by giving away just 33 runs. This ensured that India won the game in Pune by 15 runs, ensuring the series was retained by the hosts.
As for Rana, he shot into the limelight after his exploits in IPL 2024. He was then fast-tracked into the National Team setup. And then went on to make his India debut in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
