After losing skipper Temba Bavuma to injury, South Africa has also lost Gerald Coetzee ahead of the IND vs SA 2nd Test. Despite winning the first Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, the Proteas seem to have luck against them.
After their ace bowler Lungi Ngidi missed the first Test and skipper Bavuma suffered a mid-match injury that saw him get ruled out of the Test series, South Africa has suffered yet another blow. Young pace menace Gerald Coetzee is also set to miss the second Test due to an injury he picked up in Centurion.
Taking to X (now Twitter), the Proteas announced that Coetzee had developed pelvic inflammation while participating in the first Test and will miss the IND vs SA 2nd Test.
Pace quartet conundrum for South Africa after Gerald Coetzee gets ruled out
With Coetzee ruled out and Lungi uncertain, the Proteas have a huge problem on their hands. As of now, the host has not announced a replacement for Bavuma or Coetzee but has a pace-bowling all-rounder in Wiaan Mulder, who has taken the pacer’s spot in the XI.
One could also expect Duanne Olivier to be named as Coetzee’s replacement. The tall and fast bowler loves to ball short and roughen things up. In his short 15-match career, Olivier has taken 59 wickets at 21.93 and has already played two matches against India in the past.
South Africa Test squad: David Bedingham, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Dean Elgar (c), Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Keegan Petersen, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne (wk).
