After T20 World Cup win, New Zealand women’s team announces squad for India series

The New Zealand women's team, fresh off their T20 World Cup win, has announced their squad for the upcoming tour to India.

Fresh from their T20 World Cup victory in the UAE, the Women’s champions are heading to India for a three-match ODI series. The squads have been announced for the India vs New Zealand three ODI series, with just two players from the World Cup-winning team not making the trip for the ICC women’s championship matches. Sophie Devide will as usual lead the team.

Two WC winner players missing out

Pacer Rosemary Mair and off-spinner Leigh Kasperek are the only absentees from the squad, with Mair rested to manage her workload. Lauren Down returns to the squad after her maternity break, having made her international comeback in July. Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Polly Inglis has earned her first call-up to the squad.

Building momentum for the ODI World Cup

Head coach Ben Sawyer is excited about the tour, viewing it as crucial preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup in India. “Alongside trying to win the series, the tour will serve as important preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup in India,” Sawyer said.

“It’s been an amazing 24 hours for this group becoming T20 World Cup champions. We’re relishing the win but when we get to India we’ll need to refocus and set our sights on the next challenge.”
