Gautam Gambhir has started his initiative to bring back part-time bowlers in Indian cricket. As if making Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav bowl the last two overs of the India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I and successfully defending just 9 runs wasn’t enough, he’s now made white-call captain Rohit Sharma bowl once again.
Return of Rohit Sharma The Bowler
Rohit, who has an IPL hat-trick to his name, used to be a more than handy bowler a decade ago, but a shoulder injury has seen him bowl less and less through the years. The last time he bowled was against the Netherlands in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Well, his bowling hiatus has ended. The Indian captain bowled two overs of his off-spin against Sri Lanka in the India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI.
On a pitch that was assisting the spinners, Rohit was a tad bit expensive, giving away 11 runs. But he was definitely better than Shubman Gill, who bowled one solitary over in the first ODI and was taken for 14 runs.
