After record bid for Rishabh Pant, Sanjiv Goenka-led LSG refuse to use RTM for KL Rahul

IPL Auction 2025: KL Rahul and LSG parted ways on an alleged sour note, and that was visible when the batter was not RTMed by the franchise,

The highlight of IPL 2024 was when, post LSG vs SRH match, owner Sanjiv Goenka had a public outburst on ex-skipper KL Rahul. From there on, it was mighty clear that the two parties will part ways for the next edition. And that is what happened at the IPL retentions, when Rahul was released from the squad. Cut to IPL 2025 Auction, the 32-year-old was bought by DC for only INR 14 Cr.

Sanjiv Goenka vs KL Rahul

IN an IPL Auction where Rishabh Pant was bagged by LSG for 27 Cr, LSG had the option of RTMing KL Rahul for only 14 Cr, but did not exercise that option. While DC did RTM Rishabh Pant, but then Sanjiv Goenka’s LSG did not even consider RTMing their skipper from the last edition.

Reading between the lines, it only suggested that there is a certain rift between the two. On the other hand, Rahul was unfortunate only to fetch 14 Cr, when he not only comes as a batter with exceptional record, but also is a potential captain candidate for Delhi. What is even more surprising is the fact, that the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal (PBKS) and Arshdeep Singh (PBKS), both fetched 18 Cr in the IPL Auction.

IPL Auction 2025

If one was to look at all the major purchases, Mitchell Starc went to DC for 11.75 Cr, while David Miller fetched 7.5 Cr for GT. Kagiso Rabada also went for 11.75 Cr to GT, that made the team, one of the highest spenders on the day. In fact, their bowling line up was sorted with the addition of Mohammed Siraj at 12.25 Cr.
