‘After Rawalpindi Express from Pakistan, we have found Delhi Express’: Mayank Yadav’s raw pace thrills ex-India cricketer

Sanjay Manjrekar also talked about introducing Mayank Yadav to the national set-up as soon as possible, stating his raw pace may not last more than 7-8 years.

Just like many former cricketers and cricket lovers, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav has got Sanjay Manjrekar excited. Mayank Yadav impressed one and all with his raw pace during LSG’s win over Punjab Kings on Saturday. The bowler bowled consistently at 150 kmph, maintaining a good length and not providing too much room to batters.

Mayank the new sensation

Mayank was the talk of the town after propelling the Super Giants to their first win. He picked up three wickets and bowled an extremely economical spell, giving just 27 runs away in 4 overs. He picked up the wickets of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma to make sure PBKS did not get a chance to go close to LSG’s score of 199.

Agarkar will be excited: Manjrekar

One former player who was left deeply impressed by the youngster’s talent was Sanjay Manjrekar. Speaking to Star Sports after the match, Manjrekar said, “India will be buzzing today. We have found the Delhi Express after the Rawalpindi express from Pakistan. Yeah, wonderful.”

Yes (he knows there’s a challenge from hereon). You know the chairman of the Indian selection committee, Ajit Agarkar is a former fast bowler. He gets very excited when he sees fast-bowling talent,” Manjrekar added.

‘Fast-track Mayank into national set-up’

Manjrekar also talked about introducing Mayank to the national scene by fast-tracking his entry into the national team.

As I was saying on air, this kind of pace doesn’t stay with you for 7-8 years. When you have got it, Pakistan used to do it in the past. Waqar Younis, for instance. You sometimes have to fastrack fast bowlers,” Manjrekar said.

Sometimes, it works. It’s just a format we have to decide. We can fast-track him. I know I am going far too ahead, but I was so excited seeing his pace. The slowest ball he bowled was 139 kmph,” he added.
