After ODIs, Sanju Samson gets lucky break in T20Is too

Sanju Samson is one of the two wicketkeepers selected in the T20 squad for the West Indies tour.

Sanju Samson: Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel has given a new lease of life to Sanju Samson as the wicketkeeper batter has been selected in the T20 squad for the tour of West Indies. After his selection in ODIs, Samson now has a good chance to cement his place in the shortest format of the game as well.

The Rajasthan Royals captain is one of the two wicketkeeper batters selected in the T20 squad. Samson, who has not been given consistent chances in the white-ball formats, is set to get enough chances in the Caribbean tour as the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are out of the team due to injuries.

The RR wicketkeeper batter last played a T20I against Sri Lanka before pulling up a hamstring injury. After that Samson played IPL 2023 season, scoring 360 runs in 13 games.

Sanju Samson: Golden opportunity for Samson to shine against out-of-form West Indies

Earmarked as the one of best talents in the county, Samson is always looked at as the next big thing in cricket. However, with the emergence of Pant, Samson slightly went the pecking order. Now with no Pant for at least four months, the RR batter would be hoping he gets enough chances to showcase his huge potential.

In the limited chances that the right-hand batter has got, he has shown flexibility and adaptability coming in at different positions in the ODIs and T20Is.

In the 50-over format, Samson has played 11 ODIs scoring 330 runs. He has often come as a finisher in ODIs and shown calmness and composure. While in the T20Is, Samson has been used as a floater scoring 301 runs in 17 matches. With West Indies not showing any form in white-ball formats, this is the golden opportunity for the Kerala batter to make the wicketkeeping spot his own.
