After Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna’s prospects for BGT under suspense

After Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna’s prospects for BGT under suspense

Prasidh Krishna has played 24 international games for India, including two Tests in South Africa.

India’s pace bowling stocks have taken another hit, with Prasidh Krishna’s fitness elevating concerns ahead of the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Australia. The Karnataka pacer, who was recently named as a travelling reserve for the Test series against New Zealand, has been sidelined due to an injury sustained during the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against MP. The Rajasthan Royals pacer had a lengthy layoff as he already missed almost eight months due a quadriceps injury.

No Shami, & now no Prasidh Krishna?

This setback comes at a crucial time for the Indian team, as they are already grappling with the absence of Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from his own injury. Shami’s return to full fitness remains uncertain, further complicating India’s plans for the BGT.

Prasidh Krishna’s injury is a particular blow, considering his impressive performances and the Indian team’s faith in his abilities. He could be a dark horse in the Australian conditions, given his ability to extract extra bounce. The tall pacer likes to hit the deck, something that can garner success Down Under.

While there is no official confirmation about the nature of Prasidh Krishna’s injury, the Hindu’s reports suggest that he experienced discomfort while running in the field. The Karnataka team missed his presence during their Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh, who clubbed 425/8 in 140 overs. Out of those 140 overs, Krishna has bowled just 8, taking 1/20.

The Indian think tank will be closely monitoring Prasidh Krishna’s recovery and assessing his availability for the BGT series. If he is unable to regain full fitness in time, it could force the team to explore alternative options or rely heavily on their other pace bowlers.
