After horror Test debut, ex-India star spells out what would work for Prasidh, justifies Shardul’s inclusion

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar analysed the roles of Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur after the 1st IND vs SA Test

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opined that the ‘right kind of bowlers’ will be able to contribute for the side in South Africa after India’s humiliating defeat in the 1st IND vs SA Test. The Proteas beat India by an innings and 32 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

‘Too harsh to drop Krishna after just one’: Ex-India star on IND vs SA

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar analysed India’s bowling options – particularly Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur – following the loss. The former cricketer opined that he had Mukesh Kumar in place of Krishna in his playing XI owing to the lateral movement that the former would get. Manjrekar went on to point out that Prasidh does not hit the deck hard and that he uses his height.

It will be a little harsh to drop Prasidh Krishna after one. If you look at it, he is not someone who hits the deck hard. He sort of uses his height. The only ball that has pace and strength are the short balls,” Manjrekar said.

Prasidh Krishna made his Test debut in the 1st IND vs SA Test at the Centurion. He managed to pick just one wicket in 20 overs while conceding 93 runs in his spell.

Why Shardul Thakur is included in the XI

The former cricketer pointed out that Shardul Thakur’s inclusion in the XI was a part of India’s strategy to ensure depth in batting. Noting that India was always a ‘little wary’ of their batting, Manjrekar opined that Thakur played only because he can bat and can bat well in foreign conditions.
