After fastest triple ton, Tanmay Agarwal not looking at surpassing Brian Lara’s 501

In the Ranji Trophy encounter against Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad has already scored a massive 529/1 in 48 overs.

Even though his fastest triple hundred in India’s first-class history came against a relatively weaker side, Arunachal Pradesh, but still it required a special effort from Hyderabad batsman Tanmay Agarwal, to score 323 in 160 balls.

The batsman slammed 33 fours and 21 sixes overall, and added 449 runs with Rahul Singh, who scored 185 from 105 balls. After his innings, Tanmay did admit, that you need luck to be in your favour too.

“I feel good and grateful. After I completed 150, I just started hitting and luck was in my favour. I always found middle of the bat and balls went out. I just kept batting and kept hitting,” a composed Agarwal told PTI.

If the left-hander is to be believed, he did not know of the world record he had smashed, until the end of day’s play. “After the end of the day’s play… From teammates to my family, everyone is very happy,” he added.

Tanmay, meanwhile, also realises that this sort of an innings might not be possible against better teams. “When you compare with Elite teams, this kind of feat is not possible, but I didn’t think about quality of opposition and kept playing the way I had to.

“The world record just happened. Nothing was planned. There were no plans that I would do this and that. It just happened.” Now having broken a few records already, the 28-year-old is in line to break a few more. First in sight is the highest Indian first-class score of 443. by BB Nimbalkar.

The world record is held by Brian Lara, who hit 501 for Warwickshire against Durham. But Tanmay isn’t looking at records. “No, I am not because I don’t know how much longer we will be batting on Saturday. As long as I bat tomorrow, I will try to play like I started the innings today. If it happens, it happens. I don’t have in mind that I have to achieve this or that.”
