After giving Mustafizur Rahman a one-day NOC extension, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus has justified their reasoning. Mustafizur, who’s playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024, will leave the franchise on May 1.
The left-arm pacer was supposed to leave on April 30, but BCB allowed the fast bowler to stay back a day and return after the Punjab Kings clash on May 1. Being their highest wicket-taker, CSK would have wanted Mustafizur to stay with them for the entire season, but the pacer is supposed to play international cricket from May 3.
Learning process over for Mustafizur Rahman
Jalal Yunus claimed that Mustafizur has nothing to learn from the league, and rather, it’s the opposite. Many players on the CSK team need to take lessons from him. While talking with the Daily Star, he said:
“Mustafizur has nothing to learn from playing in the IPL. Mustafizur’s learning process is over. Rather, there are many players in IPL who can learn from him. Bangladesh will not benefit from this.”
IPL 2024
He also talked about how, being their ace bowler, the Bangladesh cricket team needs Mustafizur Rahman for the T20 World Cup 2024, and therefore they need to manage his workload.
“Our concern is Mustafizur’s fitness. They want to take 100 per cent from him. They don’t have a headache about his fitness, but we do. The reason we are bringing back Mustafizur is not just to play in the Zimbabwe series, but if he is brought here, we will plan him with the workload. But that plan won’t happen if he’s in IPL,” he further added.
