After cryptic post, Sanju Samson sends message to fans after IND vs AUS & World Cup snub

Despite averaging 53 with the bat in ODIs, Samson was not selected in the preliminary World Cup squad and has now been looked over for the IND vs AUS series.

After being left out of the IND vs AUS ODI series squad, wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson has posted a message for his fans on his Instagram account. Samson was not selected in the squad for the recently concluded Asia Cup with Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav given the nod ahead of him.

The batter posted a picture of him in the Indian jersey along with the caption, “It is what it is! I choose to keep moving forward”.

With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah being rested for the first two fixtures of the IND vs AUS series, Samson and his fans were hopeful that the Kerela cricketer would be included in the squad.

However, much to everyone’s shock, Samson was not selected. With Varma and Suryakumar Yadav retaining their spots despite their failure against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup and Ruturaj Gaikwad coming into the squad to replace skipper Rohit Sharma, Samson found himself out of the reckoning once again.

Now, Samson has decided to speak out against this snub from the Australia series and potentially the final World Cup 2023 squad.

It seems like Samson has finally accepted his fate, knowing full and well that he’s done everything in his power and has now decided to put his head down and keep on working.

Was Sanju Samson being dropped justified?

When compared to his main competitors in the middle order, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson is ahead in the numbers game.

Samson has played 13 ODIs for India, making 390 runs in 12 innings with an impressive average of 55.71 and batting at a quickfire strike rate of 104. He also has three fifties in his two-year ODI career.

In comparison, Surya averages just 24.4 in double the number of matches (27).

Meanwhile, Kishan averages 46.50 in 23 matches, having played just two matches at the number 5 spot.
