The Pakistan Cricket Board issued a verbal caution to young pacer Shahnawaz Dahani regarding a tweet he posted. In the tweet, he expressed a touch of sarcasm after not being chosen for the one-day series against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup 2023. Following the announcement of the Pakistan squads, Dahani implied that both the chief selector, Inzamam ul Haq, and the media seemed unaware of his identity as a Pakistani bowler.
“Seems they don’t know I am a Pakistani bowler and no one in the press conference even asked him (Inzamam) about my selection,” Dahani wrote.
Dahani also criticized journalists for failing to question the decision of the Pakistan selectors to exclude him. He expressed his disappointment that the media didn’t raise inquiries regarding his omission from the squad. This highlights his frustration with the lack of scrutiny on the selection process, further adding to the ongoing debate surrounding his absence from the team.
“Not even a single journalist or cricket analyst even dared to ask questions or show these stats to selectors. #RIPSPORTSJOURNALISM,” he tweeted.

Following his tweet, PCB higher-ups swiftly contacted the young bowler, admonishing him for making controversial public statements. Hailing from the relatively untapped region of southern Sindh province, Dahani stands as one of the few players to have ascended to the international level. Acknowledging his misstep, he promptly took down the tweeted message.
In the meantime, the Pakistan squad is set to participate in a three-day training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Following this, they will head to Hambantota on August 18, where they will commence their preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. This training will be crucial in honing their skills and strategies for the highly anticipated tournament.
