India faced a devastating defeat against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final, losing by 6 wickets. The Aussies secured their record-extending sixth title. Following the World Cup Final, the contract of head coach Rahul Dravid has expired. While there is a possibility of renewing his contract, Dravid hinted at uncertainties about his future during the post-match press conference.

He mentioned that he hasn’t had the chance to contemplate his coaching role with Team India, given the hectic schedule of the World Cup.

“I haven’t thought about it. I’ve just come off a game. I have no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that. But at this point of time, I was completely focused on this campaign. It was focused on this World Cup, and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven’t given any other thought to what happens in the future,” Dravid said.

Rahul Dravid is facing yet another bout of disappointment, having encountered heartbreak as a player in the 2003 World Cup final, as a captain in the 2007 World Cup, and most recently as a coach in both the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final and the 2023 World Cup final.

Despite these setbacks, there is a possibility that Dravid could continue as the coach for the Indian team, pending final discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Dravid also disclosed that there was a lot of disappointment prevailing in the Indian dressing room.

“The boys are disappointed. There were a lot of emotions in the dressing room. It was tough to see them as coaches. Having spent so much time with them, I know them personally. It was tough. I’m sure the sun will come up tomorrow morning, and we will move on. That’s what we do as sportsmen. Games like these will make you cherish the highs,” he said.
