After 34 Tests, Bumrah, Cummins & Rabada almost on par; Indian stands out in one area

In the first two India vs England Tests, Jasprit Bumrah has alone picked up 15 wickets, with three more matches to go.

To become the first pacer from India, to attain the World No. 1 ranking in Tests in no mean feat. Jasprit Bumrah is certainly a notch above the rest of the fast bowlers in the world, and consistently keeps producing match-winning performances.

The only fast bowlers who are perhaps as good, are South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, and Australia’s Pat Cummins. All three are not only the spearheads of their countries, but are out-and-out wicket-taking bowlers, at least their stats show that.

Jasprit Bumrah vs Kagiso Rabada vs Pat Cummins

The Indian bowler has 155 wickets to his name in 34 Tests, at an average of 20.19. The highlight of his performances so far is, his strike-rate of 44.5, and has 10 fifers to his name. Meanwhile, Rabada, after same number of Tests, had 163 wickets. On the other hand, Cummins was in the same range too, at 164 wickets.

One of the factors that needs to be kept in mind is, Bumrah, on spin-conducive wickets in India, has played six Tests, and still has an exceptional record here. He has 29 wickets to his name, at an average of 13. In comparison, Cummina has played four, and picked up 11 wickets only, at an average of 32. When it comes to Rabada, he has a poor record in India, and from six matches, he has picked only nine wickets at an average of 44.

That just goes on to show, that conditions notwithstanding, Bumrah has excelled in Tests, wherever he has played, while the other two — Cummins and Rabada, have been great, when conditions have assisted them.
