Take a bow! Ibrahim Zadran has already become the Afghanistan cricket team’s greatest ICC batter. The opener already held the record for the highest individual score for Afghanistan, but he broke that in the England vs. Afghanistan match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The right-handed batter scored more than 50% of the team’s total runs (177 of 325).

Ben Duckett had broken the record of Nathan Astle, scoring 165 against Australia and becoming the highest individual scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy. That record hasn’t even lasted a week. Because Ibrahim has shattered that record while thrashing the likes of Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid.

What makes Ibrahim’s 177-run knock impressive is that at one point Afghanistan was 37/3. From there, Ibrahim Zadran took the team forward. The highest scorer after him was Mohammad Nabi, who scored just 41 runs. He glued the innings together and helped Afghanistan make their highest ICC score.
One mustn’t forget that Ibrahim has shown his batting pedigree in ICC events before. He had scored Afghanistan’s first ICC century in the ODI World Cup 2023. He was top-scorer at 129* against Australia, the side that won the tournament. They didn’t win that match, but Ibrahim would hope the result is different this time around.
