AFG vs SL Highlights: Sri Lanka knock Afghanistan out of Asia Cup

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have one win each, while Afghanistan is looking for their first win of the tournament in order to move to the next stage of the Asia Cup 2023.

AFG vs SL LIVE Highlights: The match was hanging at the edge of the knife and tilted both ways for the most part of the game. Sri Lanka managed to hail through after a panic in the Afghanistan camp in the last part of the run chase. The Lankans top Group B, while Afghanistan bow out of the Asia Cup 2023. Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and opt to bat first. Kusal Mendis was the highest run scorer of the match after amassing 92 runs.

“Very disappointed about it. We gave our hundred percent. Yeah, I am proud of the team, the way we played. The way we scored runs and fought till the last end. I think we played good cricket in the last couple of years in the ODI format also. It is still learning for us. Today, we played up to the mark and played good cricket I think. We had a lot of positives in this tournament. We are very near to the World Cup and that is a big event. We are looking forward to the event,” said Afghanistan captain Hasmahtullah Shahidi.

You know, our crowd always supporting us. In the country, people always supporting us. We always try our best to gift them. We are sorry that we could not qualify,” he added.

“Yeah, really, it was a tough game. Finally, we qualified. It’s good to see that we won all the matches. That is the only thing I can do under pressure. That’s why I smile under pressure. Yeah, it was. But I need to do that. I try my best and I will do it [bowling under pressure as a young 20-year-old bowler].” said Pathirana after the match.
