“Groundsman confident. He says It will be a good and consistent surface. No worries about the pitch. The wicket should be consistent for the 40 overs,” England captain Joss Buttler commented on the Adelaide pitch.

Rohit Sharma spent a considerable time assessing conditions at the Adelaide Oval during India’s 1st practice session on Tuesday. The Hit-Man gestured to Mumbai teammate Shardul Thakur on a particular side of the boundary, while also having a good look at the pitch. Rohit also went down on his knees to feel the surface, trying to get as much as information as possible ahead of the England clash.

The Indian captain was also shadow batting, suggesting that it was easier to clear the covers than hit in the ‘V’ where the boundaries are longer. Against Bangladesh, India employed a similar strategy that led to a collapse, with Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul taking catches in the deep.

India are set to adopt the same strategy with England having a power-packed line-up with a batting order that runs deep. Rohit will instruct his bowlers to make Buttler and Co hit on the longer side of the ground, thus protecting the flow of runs while increasing the chance of a wicket.

IND vs ENG LIVE: Rohit Sharma’s SPECIAL gameplan vs England

  • Rohit Sharma spent considerable time assessing conditions at the Adelaide Oval.
  • The Indian captain was shadow batting on the wicket and identified the longer boundaries at the venue.
  • The Hit-Man will now instruct his bowlers to make the English players hit to the bigger side of the ground.
  • India had employed a similar ploy against Bangladesh at the same venue, with Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul pouching catches in the deep.

Not the quickest compared to the other surfaces in the t20 World Cup, the pitch at Adelaide aids run-scoring, with an average of 155 in all T20s. India and NewZealand both managed to breach the 180-run mark batting first and the idea will be to replicate the same.

Adelaide Pitch Report: As for the pitch, the Adelaide Oval uses a drop-in pitch with the ground being a multi-purpose venue. The surface on offer provides an even contest between both bat and ball. While batsmen have made merry on this wicket, some have struggled too, with the bowlers extracting movement from the seam. Spin also comes into play due to the long boundaries on offer.
