Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recalled episodes of sledging that were involved in his career ahead of Day 2 of the 1st IND vs SA Test. The legendary batsman recounted the on-field banters he had encountered in his career, noting that there was no abuse involved as long as it wasn’t India’s match with their neighbours.
Sunil Gavaskar spills the beans on sledging in his days
“There was such banter on many occasions but there was never abuses. Abuses were flying around when we played with our neighbours. There is one story, that happened for the first time, I cannot tell that on television. I will reveal it later on”, Sunil Gavaskar said.
Speaking on the Star Sports broadcast ahead of Day 2 of IND vs SA, Gavaskar recalled that there was very little conversation between players of both sides back in the days. Recollecting a couple of memories, the former Indian batter revealed that the bowler would ask the batsman to go buy a lottery if he failed to pick on a play on delivery. If the match was happening in Birmingham and the batsman would edge one to the keeper, then the bowler would say ‘are you playing at Edgbaston’, he recounted.
