“Ab ki baar 300 paar” looks like a reality in IPL 2025

“Ab ki baar 300 paar” looks like a reality in IPL 2025

IPL 2025: TIll now, in all T20s, the score pf 300 has been breached twice, while it has never happened in the IPL, with SRH coming close at 287.

“The pace of the game has reached a point where it feels like we could score 300 in a match. Last year, we came very close on a few occasions.” These words were spoken by GT captain Shubman Gill, before the start of the IPL 2025. So, can it really happen? Maybe, or maybe not.

Better Strike-rates, Better Run-rates Can Bring 300 in IPL 2025

But then there are signs, that could see the 300-run mark being breached. It is not like 300 has never been achieved in T20s — Zimbabwe scored 344 vs Gambia, while Nepal scored 314 vs Mangolia — but has never been crossed in IPL. Having said that, IPL 2024 saw 250-run mark being surpassed eight times by teams with 287/3 for SRH vs RCB, remaining the highest till date.

Impact Sub Rule Major Contributor

In fact, SRH also went on to also achieve a run-rate of 17.27 — which is the highest ever in the history of the tournament, while chasing 166 in 9.4 overs vs LSG. So, had the team managed to maintain that rate for 20 overs, they would have scored around 345. The impact sub rule does play a part in it, where teams can swap a bowler or an all-rounder with a dasher come their chance to bat; but then this milestone is something that the teams, players and fans have been waiting for a while.

Who Can Achieve Milestone 300 and Where?

Given this very Impact Sub rule, the run-rates in every passage of play have gone up rather significantly. As per Cricinfo, since the rule was introduced in 2023, the the average powerplay run-rate has gone up from 7.96 in 2022, to 9.04 in 2024. Come the middle overs, three years back it was at 8.05, and in 2024 it became 8.98. The death overs also saw a rise in the RR — in 2022 it was 11.11, while last year it became 11.74.

One would wonder, as to which team can score this mountain, and at which venue? Given, what transpired in the previous season, SRH are the most likely candidates. They seem to have a batting trio of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, who had strike-rates of 204, 191, and 171.. and this year they have Ishan Kishan in their ranks too. And this could be a possibility at the Chinnaswamy, where they went on to score 287.
