‘A great camaraderie’: Shreyas Iyer reveals unique bonding with Rohit Sharma & Gautam Gambhir

Shreyas Iyer delves deep into sharing great bonding that he has built with captain Rohit Sharma over the years

It is no surprise that Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma are good friends and even better teammates. Shreyas Iyer recently spoke about the great camaraderie that he has shared with the India Cricket Team captain over the years. Now just Rohit Sharma, but Iyer also has a strong bond with head coach Gautam Gambhir after having worked with him at KKR last season.

Shreyas Iyer revealed how it is very easy for him or any other player to approach Rohit Sharma both on and off the field. Shreyas Iyer further claimed that he admires how Rohit stands tall through every highs and lows.

“Playing with Rohit bhai has been amazing. We’ve built a great camaraderie over the years, and he’s always approachable and fun off the field. As a captain, his calmness under pressure stands out, and he gives players the freedom to express themselves. I admire how grounded he stays through highs and lows and how well he reads the game. I’ve learned a lot from him, especially how he keeps things light while handling pressure,” Shreyas Iyer told The Hindustan Times.

A special bond with Gautam Gambhir

Apart from Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir also has a special bond with India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir. The duo were a part last season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where Kolkata Knight Riders won the title under Iyer’s captaincy and Gmbhir’s mentorship.

Iyer revealed how Gambhir is very supportive and helps players in expressing themselves.

Gautam bhai is someone I’ve always admired for his intensity and winning mindset. As a coach, he brings that same passion and focus, constantly pushing players to give their best. What stands out the most is his clarity; he knows exactly what he wants from the team and communicates it straight to the point. He’s also very supportive, always encouraging players to express themselves, which helps build confidence. Working with him has been a great learning experience,” Iyer concluded.
