[Exclusive] Monty Panesar backs struggling Jonny Bairstow for Ranchi Test

Bairstow has had a disastrous run with the bat in the six innings so far, registering 37 as his highest score.

Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes that under-fire batter Jonny Bairstow deserves another chance in England’s playing XI despite a poor run of form the ongoing India vs England Test series.

Notably, Bairstow has had a disastrous run with the bat in the six innings so far, registering 37 as his highest score.

The wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and managed only 4 in the second on a flat Rajkot deck in third Test.

While many former english cricketers have suggested England to look beyond Bairstow, Panesar has urged Ben Stokes and Co. to give the 34-year-old another chance to prove himself.

“I think Jonny Bairstow should play the next Test match and prove to everyone that he can change his mindset and can quickly work things out”, Panesar told Insidesport.

“It’s a big test for him as well and if he can manage to get out of it, then it resets his Test career. But if he doesn’t, then they [England] may move on from Jonny”, the former England spinner further added.

The fourth IND vs ENG Test will begin on February 23 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
