On July 7th, scoring 77 runs was a perfect tribute to his hero, especially when your hero is MS Dhoni, then it is more special. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 77-run innings in just 47 balls against Zimbabwe in the second T20I was a tribute to the former CSK and India skipper.
Although Gaikwad had failed to make a mark in the first T20I game, but he chose the perfect day to play a flawless and ‘coincidental’ knock. Since MS Dhoni celebrates his birthday today, Gaikwad’s impressive innings on the same day were nothing but a coincidence.
Speaking about the coincidence, after this impressive innings, Gaikwad couldn’t help to restrict his laughter and said, ‘It was pretty tough, the first 15 balls I played, I didn’t even middle a single ball. The wicket was slightly tough. Me and Abhishek said that we should take our time and then go for our shots, and it worked. He took on the spinners really well. We talked about maintaining our shape while playing our shots. The wicket was slightly two-paced, some balls were skidding and some were holding up. I think we need to stick to hard lengths, stick to good lengths, just Test match lengths, keep it simple and try to hit top of off’.
