The deadly duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin are set to be a part of the India’s playing XI against West Indies in the first Test match. The match is set to be played at the Windsor Park, Dominica from July 12 onwards. Ahead of the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hinted that they are going to play two spinners which is a direct indication towards Jadeja and Ash.

Both Jadeja and Ashwin last played together in 2021 WTC Final
Interestingly, the last time India’s two leading red-ball spinners, Ashwin and Jadeja played together in an overseas Test match, India was competing in a WTC final against New Zealand in 2021.
Since that defeat, the team management opted to completely ditch the two-spinner approach for overseas Tests, albeit Ashwin’s exclusion in the last WTC final sparked criticism. It will now be interesting to see if Ashwin does make a comeback in the playing XI, and how his partnership with Jadeja works on the Caribbean pitches.
Apart from Jadeja and Ashwin’s inclusion, Rohit also spoke about India’s batting composition. The skipper confirmed that young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to make his Test debut. With Jaiswal opening alongside Rohit, Shubman Gill is set to play at the number 3 spot with Kohli and Rahane set to bat at 4th and 5th position respectively.
It may be interesting to see that if Ishan Kishan gets a chance to play as a wicket-keeper instead of KS Bharat who has not been able to impress with his batting in the longest format so far.
