5 star bowlers who have failed in IPL 2024

Take a look at five bowlers who have consistently failed to make an impact in the Indian Premier League in 2024

Since IPL 2024 is reaching its business end, there are just 19 matches left. In the last month, we have seen multiple gripping encounters, and in those clashes, some emerged as heroes, whereas others came under the pump and faltered, failing to make an impact. With a large enough sample size, it’s easy to judge all the player performances in this IPL 2024 season.

As the saying goes, batters win games, but bowlers win tournaments. In this article, we are going to look five bowlers who have failed to live up to expectations in the IPL 2024.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (SRH)

This 34-year-old veteran pacer has certainly been a debated name. As he did perform well in a few matches, but his overall performances in IPL 2024 are not up to par.

Playing for SRH, Kumar has participated in 10 matches in the IPL 2024. And in these ten matches he has conceding 399 runs with a poor bowling average of 44.33 and taking just 9 wickets. As an experienced bowler, there were high expectations, but he failed to live up to them in this IPL.

Anrich Nortje (DC)

Delhi Capitals’ Anrich Nortje is also not having a good outing. He has actually become a favorite target for many batters. In one match against the Mumbai Indians, the Delhi fast bowler had a terrible time as he conceded 65 runs in 4 overs. Overall, in 11 matches for DC, he has conceded 294 runs with an extremely poor bowling average of 42. He is also one player who features on our list of flop bowlers and undoubtedly deserves it.

Mohit Sharma (GT)

Mohit Sharma also features in our list, as he started his IPL 2024 well. But since the IPL progressed, his performances have declined, and like Anrich Nortje, he has also become a flesh for batters. Looking at his IPL performances to date, in 11 matches, he has given away 210 runs with a bowling economy of 11.26.

Sharma has also delivered the most expensive spell in IPL history in this edition. Playing against the Delhi Capitals, he conceded 73 runs in 4 hours. It looks like he is also going downhill. All his performances to date in this season are the reason why he is on this flop bowlers list.

Rashid Khan (GT)

Star Gujarat spinner Rashid Khan has also disappointed in this edition, having played all 11 matches for GT. He has conceded 329 runs with a poor bowling average of 41.13. Khan is known to provide breakthroughs with his wicket-taking deliveries, although he hasn’t done so in the ongoing edition.

His performance is one of the reasons GT is struggling at the points table, as the team relies on him a lot.

R Ashwin (RR)

Rajasthan Royals’ veteran spinner R Ashwin has also not had a good outing to date. Although his team is doing decently well, seated in the second spot and virtually qualified for the IPL playoffs. However, Ashwin’s performances haven’t made any impact to date.

Ashwin is known for controlling runs and taking wickets, but it looks like he has failed to do both. In nine matches so far, he has conceded 315 runs and taken just 2 wickets, which is unbelievable. It seems like he is also going through a rough patch. He surely needs to get back on track as RR is surely going to play in the playoffs, and the team’s performance relies on his individual performances as well.
