Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan who is one of the best all-rounders in the world is prone to controversies. The left-handed batter has faced criticism in the recent match against Sri Lanka in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 for making a contentious appeal against Angelo Matthews.

Shakib Al Hasan controversy with Angelo Mathews
Shakib faced backlash from the fans and some cricket fraternity for his appeal against Angelo Mathews which made the Sri Lankan batter the first ever to be timed out in cricket.
Timed out is a method of dismissal in the sport of cricket. It occurs when an incoming batter is not ready to play within three minutes according to MCC laws (2 minutes as per ICC playing conditions) of the previous batter being out.
Shakib Al Hasan banned by ICC
The Bangladeshi cricketer was banned from playing any cricket for failing to report a bookie. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned Bangladesh’s Test and Twenty20I captain Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket for two years, with one year suspended, after he accepted three accusations of violating the ICC anti-corruption rule.

Shakib Al Hasan vs Sri Lanka, No ball controversy
In the second match of the Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka got involved in an ugly fight. Bangladesh required 12 runs to win from the last five balls when Isuru Udana bowled two short balls taking Mustafizur Rahman’s wicket. The Bangladesh team was unhappy with the umpire’s decision to not give the second short ball a no-ball. Disappointed with the decision, Shakib came to the boundary rope and asked his batters to get off the field.
According to media reports, in the same match, Shakib damaged Bangladesh’s dressing room after the heated argument against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy 2018 semifinal match.
Shakib Al Hasan kicking wickets controversy
During a Dhaka Premier League match, Shakib had lost his cool and kicked stumps after the umpire turned down the LBW appeal to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim. He furiously broke the stumps and argued with umpires. Later he did apologize and called his behavior a ‘human error’.
Shakib Al Hasan crotch gesture controversy
Bangladesh skipper was suspended for three matches in the Asia Cup 2014 for his inappropriate gesture towards the camera while sitting on the balcony of the pavilion. He was fined 300,000 Bangladesh taka($3,860) for gesturing towards his crotch and then to the camera during the match against Sri Lanka.
