Rohit Sharma
The India Cricket Team captain, Rohit Sharma is in the twilight of his career. And this Border Gavaskar Trophy could well be his last. With the next tour slated to take place after 2 long years, it is highly likely that the Hitman will continue to play for India by then.
In 2027, Rohit Sharma would be 39 years old. Currently, the ace batter has been under the scanner for his poor performances. The opener failed to stitch good scores in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Ravichandran Ashwin
It is surely the farewell for Ravichandran Ashwin. The veteran all-rounder is inching towards the end of his glorious career. Furthermore, with other young spinners and all-rounders ready to take on his place, this Border Gavaskar Trophy would be the last for Ashwin.
Ashwin is currently 38 years old and come the next time, he will be 40 years old. As things stand, he would be ready to finish the BGT on a strong note as Washington Sundar readies himself to take the permanent spot.
Steve Smith
Australia Cricket Team‘s ace batter Steve Smith is also inching toward the end of his career. Currently, at 35 years of age, Steve Smith can well possibly play his last BGT in 2024. Steve Smith initially experimented to open the innings for Australia after David Warner retired.
And now, in this series, he will be back in his usual number 4 spot. Steve Smith has been pretty good while playing against India and he would love to seize the opportunity again to perform against the formidable opponent.
Nathan Lyon
Another veteran of the game, Nathan Lyon has been a mainstay for Australia over the years. Deemed as one of the best spinners in recent times, the age however is not on his side. The off-spinner is currently 36-years-old and this could well be his last IND vs AUS Test series. It is believed he might hang up his boots after the series so that other youngsters can get their chance in the team.
Ravindra Jadeja
Having already retired from the T20Is, Ravindra Jadeja‘s red-ball career can also be numbered. At 35 years of age, Jadeja is not getting younger with every passing day and this can well be his last BGT. While he remains fit and continues to feature for India in ODIs and Test cricket, it is still a long haul to consider that he would be in the scheme of things in February of 2027 when Australia would tour India.
