4 matches, 4 debutants! Team India grant 4 Test debuts in series for first time since Australia tour

IND vs ENG Test Series: India Cricket Team give 4 Test debuts in 4 Test matches in series. first time since Australia tour 2020-21

The India Cricket Team gas granted Test debut to as many as four players in the IND vs ENG Test series. This is the second highest compared to Australia tour back in 2020-21 when India had 5 debutants. Akash Deep made his debut in the IND vs ENG Ranchi Test to become the 4th player to earn his maiden Test debut in the ongoing series.

Plagued by injuries and some key players missing out, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid has given opportunity to 4 different players. In the Vizag Test, Rajat Patidar got his break after KL Rahul’s injury. Up next in Rajkot Test, India gave chance to 2 news players – Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan.

In the Ranchi Test, Jasprit Bumrah got rested and thus Akash Deep got his chance. And he impressed everyone with his early three wicket haul. But this isn’t the first time India have given this many debuts. In fact when India toured Australia back in 2020-21 in that fateful series, India gave a total of 5 debuts.

5 Debutants for India in Australia Tour of 2020-21

These included the likes of Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini and T Natarajan. Gill got his debut in the Melbourne Test as India came back strongly to level the series. In the next game, i.e the Sydney Test, Navdeep Saini and Mohammed Siraj got their debuts as the match ended in a draw.

And then finally comes the breaching of Gabba. T Natarajan and Washington Sundar got their debuts as India scripted history by beating Australia in their own backyard.
