4 Conditions set by PCB for Hybrid Model acceptance in Champions Trophy 2025

Champions Trophy is the only talk for now, and since the hybrid model may come into play, the talks are intense. But what are the conditions PCB has set to accept this model for CT 2025?

What initially looked like a smooth operation of permitting the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 is now facing many twists and turns, as everyone was aware that India may not travel to Pakistan to play the CT 2025, and that’s exactly what has happened. We saw BCCI announce that they will not send Team India to Pakistan. The reason for this is that India is not traveling to Pakistan due to security concerns, as it has emerged that the Indian government has not given permission to the BCCI to send the Indian team for the Champions Trophy.

Now, after this official announcement, there are numerous ICC meetings happening to finalize a decision. Although things seem to be sorted for the hybrid model, which India wants, as they prefer to play Champions Trophy games outside Pakistan, but the situation is not easy, since PCB has set some conditions for accepting this model. Over the past few days, several details have came regarding the PCB’s conditions for accepting the hybrid model to host the Champions Trophy 2025.

See in detail what their possible conditions are to put the Champions Trophy 2025 in the hybrid model

Conditions set by PCB for Hybrid Model acceptance in Champions Trophy

  • The Pakistan cricket team will not play their matches in India during upcoming ICC events.
  • PCB demands compensation from ICC for relocating five matches, including the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash originally planned in Lahore.
  • India should participate in a tri-series with Pakistan and another team at a neutral venue, likely the UAE.
  • India and Pakistan must be placed in separate groups for the Champions Trophy 2025; currently, both teams are in Group A with New Zealand and Bangladesh.

No Pakistan Matches in India during ICC Tournaments

Now, looking at the first condition, there is clearly a lot of confusion about what exactly will happen and how many conditions will take effect. However, the first and foremost condition is that the PCB wants this hybrid model setup to be implemented in upcoming ICC tournaments as well. Under this arrangement, both teams wouldn’t visit each other’s countries and would instead play their matches at a nearby neutral venue, most likely Dubai or Sri Lanka.

If things go according to the PCB’s plans, the schedule is already set. Looking at the current cycle from 2023 to 2027, we see several major tournaments, including the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. This hybrid model may also impact these tournaments. Also, this arrangement could extend to the upcoming Women’s World Cup, scheduled for 2025 in India.

PCB Seeks compensation from ICC over relocation of CT 2025 matches

Whenever tournament games are moved, it’s no secret that the host suffers a loss. According to reports, the PCB has also asked for compensation for the potential financial loss that could occur if India plays outside of Pakistan. To ensure they don’t incur any losses, they will likely stick to these conditions.

No India vs Pakistan clash in CT 2025?

One more condition gaining attention is that if India progresses to the knockout stage, then one semi-final and possibly the final as well would be played outside Pakistan. They must also be placed in separate groups for the Champions Trophy 2025. For now, in the provisional table, both teams are in Group A with New Zealand and Bangladesh. The last condition, which seems difficult to fulfill, is that they also want a tri-series where India, Pakistan, and one other team will clash. It will be interesting to see how things comes.
