Top weaknesses of CSK ahead of IPL 2025

Since CSK is coming with a full pack of 25 players in IPL 2025 and looks strong, there are, however, a few weaknesses that may haunt them in the upcoming season.

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a good season in the last IPL, as they failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished fifth. Now, they will look to change this result, as they have an impressive team with quality players who are gearing up to give the team its sixth IPL trophy. However, if we look at all 25 players that CSK has for the upcoming IPL, they seem solid, but we can still see some flaws that could create issues for them, which they will need to address. So, what are those weaknesses? Take a look at three important concerns for Chennai Super Kings heading into IPL 2025.

No Backup Wicketkeeper

It’s no hidden fact that, apart from MS Dhoni, the CSK camp doesn’t have many quality options. Yes, they do have Devon Conway, but they need more backup for Dhoni. In the past, there has been much discussion about who can take MS Dhoni’s place once he retires from IPL. There is no question that whenever big games come, this question might haunt CSK in the future. This remains a key issue for them going into IPL 2025.

Inconsistent Middle Order

In the past, CSK was known for their high-quality batting, but now things look a little different. They have a decent number of batters this time as well, but overall, things look shaky, especially in the middle order. From Jadeja’s form in the shorter format to Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda, who are in the CSK mix, they haven’t had a good outing recently, making things a little difficult or, rather, fragile. Hooda managed 145 runs in IPL 2024 for LSG, playing only 11 games. Shankar played seven matches for GT in IPL 2024 and scored 83 runs, showing how CSK’s busy schedule didn’t provide a good season for their past players. Also, they cannot expect MS Dhoni to go up the order now, which makes it interesting to see how they will handle it.

Lack of Power Hitter

Also, the team lacks a power hitter. Yes, they do have Shivam Dube, who understands when to take on the bowlers, and even Jadeja can do that as well. However, expecting Ravindra Jadeja to perform consistently with the bat is not a reliable strategy, as they need more batters who can provide the momentum and help the team reach big scores. CSK will need to address these concerns going into IPL 2025 if they are aiming to win big games.
