3 teams with best retentions in IPL 2025

Since retentions are done and just a few days are left for the IPL mega auction, let’s see which team has covered the initial bases by picking the best players before the auction.

All teams are done with their retentions, with many IPL franchises picking players who were already anticipated to stay. For example, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav were expected to be retained by MI, which they did. However, many teams surprised fans by releasing superstar names. Shreyas Iyer is no longer with KKR, and Rishabh Pant’s exit from DC came as a shock to many. Even Arshdeep Singh is no longer in the mix for Punjab Kings, as PBKS selected only two players before the auction and this decision was certainly unexpected. All the released players will see their names in the IPL 2025 mega auction on 24th and 25th November, where their futures will be decided.

Looking at the retentions now, there’s no question that many teams have chosen their players intelligently. Since six retentions were allowed, many camps utilised this facility well. But among the ten teams, which ones came out on top? See three teams with the best retentions in IPL 2025.

Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2024 skipper and key top-order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is once again set to showcase his flair for CSK and may possibly lead the team in IPL 2025 as well. Apart from him, CSK made several crucial moves in retaining players, including Sri Lanka’s emerging pacer Matheesha Pathirana. In the last IPL, Pathirana impressed everyone with his bowling, and his return to CSK will certainly boost the team’s chances of claiming the IPL trophy once again.

Although Ravindra Jadeja, who has retired from T20 internationals and is not in great form, was retained, but his all-round abilities could make him a key player once again. Also, the retention of Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni will strengthen CSK’s batting lineup. Retaining Dhoni, especially as an uncapped player, is arguably one of CSK’s best decisions, as he may not be a part of CSK’s future for long. Considering all these combinations, there’s no doubt that CSK came out on top.
