Which teams have the potential to shock in IPL despite having the tag of underdogs? See three teams that could prove to be underdogs in IPL 2025

IPL 2025 will see some of the top teams looking to make a mark once again, teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, whose campaigns last year didn’t end well. However, these teams are known for making a comeback, and they will look to perform according to their fans expectations. Many believe these teams are the real contenders, although it’s not easy to predict. There are a few teams whose performances in recent IPL seasons haven’t been extraordinary, or, say, not many believed in them.

Still, they have revamped their squads before coming into IPL 2025, and now, despite the tournament being far away, we can sense these teams looking solid this time and potentially shocking successful teams. But who are those teams that could perform well, possibly win the tournament, and remove underdogs tag? Let’s take a look at 3 teams that could prove to be underdogs in IPL 2025.

Teams that could prove to be underdogs in IPL 2025

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have often been considered an underdog team due to their inconsistent performances over the years, with more disappointing seasons than successful ones. The team has seen significant dips in performance, which has affected their reputation. Before to the IPL 2025 auction, PBKS retained a few players and entered the auction with a clear strategy. They made smart moves, securing proven players like Shreyas Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal. Even they got back Arshdeep Singh. They also included uncapped players who performed well for them last season, adding them to the mix. With a well-rounded squad that now includes all-rounders like Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen, PBKS has strengthened their team considerably. While they are still considered underdogs due to their history of failing in big games, there is a potential for significant improvements, and we can expect them to produce better results in the upcoming season.

Lucknow Super Giants

It could be debatable whether Lucknow Super Giants will prove themselves this time or not, but they do have had some good seasons since their inception in 2022. They performed well in both 2022 and 2023, although last season exposed several weaknesses. Recognizing this, they have made plans to address key areas. LSG invested in southpaw Rishabh Pant and also secured David Miller and Nicholas Pooran, strengthening their middle order significantly. While the lack of a quality overseas pacer could create some issues, the team looks strong overall and could make a difference in IPL 2025.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have assembled a well-balanced squad, having a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. The team boasts seasoned players like KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis, whose leadership and experience will be crucial, alongside aggressive young batters like Jake Fraser-McGurk, who are making a name for themselves. Delhi also has some of the finest spinners in Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, who have proven to be strengths for the team over the years. Also, the squad includes Mitchell Starc, who will lead the pace attack, supported by top Indian performers like Mukesh Kumar and T. Natarajan. Despite having big names, Delhi has often underperformed and failed to achieve the desired results in the past. However, they will look to change their fortunes this time, and while they may enter as underdogs, they have the potential to emerge as winners.
