The rumor mill is buzzing with speculation about which players will stay or leave their respective franchises, as the deadline for player retention across all IPL clubs is just over a day away. The management of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is reportedly looking to part ways with their 40-year-old skipper, Faf du Plessis, to pave the way for a new chapter as they head into the 2025 Indian Premier League.
According to ESPNcricinfo report, RCB aims to reinstate Virat Kohli as the team’s leader after he captained them for nearly a decade, as du Plessis is expected to depart.
3 reasons why Virat Kohli should be RCB captain in IPL 2025
RCB to not spend their time and money over new captain
As RCB is not willing to retain Faf du Plessis for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, they will need to find a new captain. If they do not appoint Virat Kohli as captain, they will have to spend more from their purse to acquire a new leader during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Additionally, they will need to strategize their team around new leadership. However, with Virat at the helm, all of this may not be necessary.
Virat Kohli has done it before
Virat Kohli has led the team in previous seasons for the franchise and has developed a strong working relationship with the management. Although he has a decent record as captain, he has not yet been able to guide the team to an IPL trophy. He is still eager to lift the trophy, so why not do it by becoming captain again?
He can also lead from the front, holding the team together and utilizing his ruthless captaincy in the next edition to finally achieve the goal of winning the trophy.
RCB could built a better team
By not stressing over the captaincy tension, they could focus on building a strong team with Virat as the senior-most player leading the side. This would allow them to spend money on valuable bowlers and impactful batters during the IPL auction.
