Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are currently placed 3rd in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) points table. The Yellow Army has played eight matches so far and has managed wins in four games. CSK are slated to face a tough opponent in form of Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next group stage match of IPL 2024. Ahead of the match, let us take a look at 3 possible reasons why CSK will not lift the trophy in IPL 2024.
Why CSK might not win IPL 2024?
Non performance of Deepak Chahar
CSK premier pacer Deepak Chahar has failed to get going in IPL 2024. The right-arm pacer has played 7 matches and has managed to scalp just 5 wickets. Chahar is also bowling at an expensive economy rate of 8.61. Chahar has been poor with the new ball which has been his strength over the years.

Lack of intent in powerplay
With Devon Conway missing out, CSK have tried two different opening pairs with Ruturaj Gaikwad opening alongside Rachin Ravindra in the initial phase. Ravindra was removed from the XI with Ajinkya Rahane taking his opening spot. However, the Indian veteran has failed to deliver in IPL 2024 so far. CSK have an average powerplay score of 51.4 which the fourth lowest in IPL 2024. On contrary, SRH are scoring 72.9 runs in field restrictions in the ongoing edition.
Young Captain
MS Dhoni has been leading CSK in knockout matches so far. However, CSK is under the new leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2024. This will be the first time that Gaikwad will be leading CSK in knockout matches if they manage to qualify. There’s no doubt that there will be a lot of pressure on the young captain which most of the times gets better of the players in crunch situations.
