Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have long struggled to find a captain who can lead them to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Current RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who joined the team from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with the goal of securing the trophy, has also been unable to achieve victory. With the former South African skipper now turning 40, there is a possibility he may retire from the tournament soon. Here are three players who could be strong candidates to replace Du Plessis as RCB’s captain.
KL Rahul
Reports suggest that KL Rahul could leave Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after his disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 stint, where he faced a humiliating failure and was publicly disrespected by the owner.
The wicketkeeper-batter might return to his former team, RCB, in the mega auction, as he could fill two roles: wicketkeeping, which RCB will need after Dinesh Karthik’s retirement, and captaincy, where he could have a good rapport with Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma
It would be surreal for IPL fans to see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the same team. After Rohit was sacked as captain by the Mumbai Indians (MI), the possibility of the Indian captain exploring his IPL future with another team has increased. RCB, who are desperate for a winning captain to secure their first IPL trophy, would likely do everything possible to sign Rohit if he enters the mega auction.
Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav could be another player who might leave MI in the next season. Having become India’s captain for T20Is, franchises are considering SKY as a strong captaincy option. RCB might also approach Surya to lead their team in the IPL. He is one of the best batters in the T20 format, which would further strengthen RCB’s batting lineup.
