The Lucknow Super Giants are without any captain at this moment. LSG went on to release their skipper KL Rahul as Nicholas Pooran grabbed the highest retention amount for the side on IPL 2025 Retention Day. With now captaincy-worthy candidates among the Indian retained players, LSG will be desperately looking to make a marquee signing at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
LSG went on to retain Mayank Yadab and Ravi Bishnoi alongside Nicholas Pooran as far as capped players are concerned. On the other hand, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan are the uncapped players to be retained by the Lucknow outfits. Here we take a look at 3 players who can captain LSG in IPL 2025.

Nicholas Pooran
The Caribbean batter becomes the obvious captaincy choice at this moment. LSG went on to spill a whopping 21 crores to retain their prized player. And with Pooran being retained, there was no place for KL Rahul in the team.
Nicholas Pooran has been a highly dependable player for the side. He raked up 499 runs last season for the side from 14 games with a staggering average of 62.38 and a strike rate of 178. His ability to hit big shots and finish games makes him one of the best in the business. And this naturally fits perfectly in making him a captain for the side in IPL 2025.
Rishabh Pant
Like other teams, Rishabh Pant is also on the radar of Lucknow Super Giants. A senior LSG official informed InsideSport that the team would be trying their best to buy Rishabh Pant. But under no circumstance will the side spend an extravagant amount which would ultimately disrupt the team building process.
Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, wasn’t retained by Delhi Capitals and would go under the hammer. It is expected that the southpaw will be the highest-priced player in the auction. Should LSG get a chance to buy Rishabh Pant then he will automatically be the captain of the side.
Jos Buttler
Rajasthan Royals went on to retain 6 players, but they left out Jos Buttler. And as fate would have it, the destructive Englishman is currently on a rich vein of form. And should RR fail to rebuy him from the auction, LSG would likely go for the star batter.
He not only will provide a good opening option for the side, but his tendency to play big knocks and score huge runs will help the side greatly. With Buttler setting the precedence of the innings, the likes of Pooran and other pinch hitters can finish the innings for the side.
