Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL 2024 runner-up, emerged as a dark horse for many, especially considering their batting, which has always been under scrutiny despite having players like Aiden Markram and, in the past, Jonny Bairstow. However, IPL 2024 presented a different scenario, with both batting and bowling excelling.
With batters like Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma at the top, followed by a solid middle order featuring Heinrich Klaasen and also their new captain Pat Cummins, everything seemed to favor them until the playoffs. Although they lost badly in the final, but they made us believe that the IPL trophy is not far away. but now since IPL 2025 auction is coming, changes are likely required from the side, so which players may be released from SRH ahead of IPL 2025?
Players SRH can release ahead of IPL 2025 auction
Umran Malik
Umran Malik’s name is one that may be released from the SRH camp, as reports suggest he could move to RCB, which desperately needs bowlers. However, it remains to be seen whether this will be a transfer or if Umran will be released and go under the hammer.
Malik had a remarkable IPL 2022 with his fiery bowling, earning him a spot on the Indian national team. He took 22 wickets in 14 games, but after that season, his performance dipped significantly. In the IPL 2023 season, he played eight games and picked up only five wickets, with an average of 43.40. Now, after just one game in IPL 2024, it looks almost certain that Umran may be released from the franchise.
Glenn Phillips
New Zealand ace all-rounder Glenn Phillips is another name that may soon appear on the release list. Known for his explosive batting, Phillips has not performed to his full potential for the franchise. It is fair to say that his role has not showcased his abilities, as he has been underutilized. He could thrive at another franchise where the need for a genuine all-rounder is paramount, such as RCB or PBKS, which both require players of his caliber. It would not be surprising if SRH released him ahead of IPL 2025.
Washington Sundar
Two games and one wicket in IPL 2024, with an economy of 14.60, is certainly not what you would expect from an upcoming Indian talent with the potential to become a top-notch all-rounder, standing alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. However, his role in SRH remains uncertain, especially with another all-rounder in the camp. His bowling has not met expectations, and it appears that SRH will be looking for more lethal spinners. Consequently, players like Shabaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar may be released ahead of IPL 2025, as the Hyderabad franchise might aim to acquire more specialist bowlers.
