Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) seemed to adopt a clear strategy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction: avoiding former players. This decision left fans disappointed, as the team passed on opportunities to re-sign impactful players like KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis.
While time will reveal whether RCB’s approach was justified, questions remain about their choices. Letting go of these players, who could have significantly strengthened the squad, might turn into a decision the franchise comes to regret.
3 players RCB could regret letting go in IPL 2025 mega auction
Player | Role | Bought Price |
Faf du Plessis | Batter | INR 2 crore |
KL Rahul | Wicketkeerp batter | INR 14 crore |
Wanindu Hasaranga | Bowler | INR 5.25 crore |
Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis was bought at his base price of Rs. 2 crore, yet RCB chose not to use their RTM card. The team is in need of a captain if they are not considering Virat Kohli for the role in the upcoming season. Even if RCB didn’t see Faf as a captain, acquiring him for Rs. 2 crore would have been a smart deal.
KL Rahul
One surprising decision by RCB was not pursuing KL Rahul. Instead, they opted for Jitesh Sharma but showed no interest in bidding for KL Rahul. As a wicketkeeper, KL Rahul would have been a far better option than Jitesh any day, especially with the price difference being just Rs. 2 crore.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Hasaranga was bought for ₹5.25 crore, and RCB had the opportunity to match the price using their RTM card but chose not to. Despite needing a spinner in their squad, RCB surprisingly decided not to go for him.
