3 players RCB can target via RTM in IPL 2025 mega auction

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, here are the possible players RCB might target using the RTM option.

With the changes in the rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, franchises now have multiple options with various permutations and combinations. The six-retention policy has allowed teams to decide whom they would like to retain and whom they could add to their roster using the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are desperate to win their first title, but how? The Bengaluru team needs to change their approach at the IPL auction to build a side filled not just with star players, but also with young, talented match-winners who can perform in every game of the tournament.

The team has a few options to bring back players through the RTM card, focusing on those they believe were expensive buys but valuable additions to the squad.

Cameron Green

Cameron Green was acquired by RCB in a trade deal with Mumbai Indians for ₹17.5 crore. The purchase of Green was seen as absurd, but RCB has a reputation for making auction blunders. However, Green is not a bad player; on the contrary, he is an ideal T20-style batter. Still, the price is too high for him to be retained. RCB could choose to buy him back using their Right to Match (RTM) option if the bid for him is not too high and they believe the player is worth more.

Faf Du Plessis

The RCB captain, Faf du Plessis’s place is also not fixed for retention. Du Plessis has reached 40 years of age, and there is only a little cricket left in him. According to reports, RCB is searching for a new captain, and if they find a suitable candidate, Faf may no longer remain skipper. Still, the former South African batter has been excellent for the team over the years; therefore, they might consider rebuying him using the RTM card. Currently, Faf du Plessis’s IPL price is ₹7 crore.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was disappointing for RCB in the previous season. The Australian player was out of touch throughout the entire season, scoring only 52 runs in 10 matches of IPL 2024. RCB had high hopes for him, but his performance has let down both the franchise and their fans. RCB might not retain him at ₹11 crores; instead, they could consider bringing him back into the team through the RTM option. He is a match-winner who could turn the game in their favor at any moment.
