When Rohit was removed from the captaincy, there was significant unrest on social media, with Mumbai Indians losing 400,000 followers on Twitter within an hour. With more than 6,000 runs in his career, there is a chance that Rohit himself might move on, which could mean MI, despite their reluctance, might release him.
Suryakumar Yadav
Now, when it comes to India’s 360-degree best T20 batter, Suryakumar Yadav, there are reports that MI and KKR are in talks about a possible swap deal. If the speculation holds true, MI is interested in acquiring Shreyas Iyer, who is currently the KKR captain and led the team to the IPL 2024 trophy. Meanwhile, KKR is looking at SKY, who has previously played for them and has over 600 runs in 54 outings. If the swap happens, it will be interesting to see how things unfold, as this star batter is currently the Indian T20I captain, which means KKR might consider giving him the captaincy as well.
Ishan Kishan
Now, one more batter who may get released is Ishan Kishan. Unlike the aforementioned players who might want to leave, Kishan’s situation is different. After a mostly poor outing last season and currently being out of the Indian cricket scheme (not in the central contract), Kishan is trying to make a comeback. He is currently capitalizing on the Buchi Babu tournament and scoring heavily.
However, whether this will be enough is uncertain. In IPL 2024, he had a start but failed to score big; he accumulated 320 runs in 14 games, but with an average of 22. As an opener, more stability was expected from him, which he failed to provide. Given his performance, he might be released from the team. However, if Hardik Pandya remains the captain, the situation could become more interesting, as both players are known to be close. This could mean Kishan might get one more chance.
