3 marquee players CSK might target in IPL 2025 auction

With CSK needing some quality players to hit the triumph button once again, they can only do so by acquiring big players. See three marquee players CSK might target in the IPL 2025 auction.

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings are all set to revamp things in the IPL 2025 mega auction. As of now, players are under CSK’s umbrella, with MS Dhoni as an uncapped player, alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The franchise also retained Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube. In total, 5 players are under the bag, but what’s next? A total of 574 players will go under the hammer to fill 204 slots, and among these names, some big marquee players are also present. Speaking about marquee players, there are 12 in total, divided into two sets. Set 1 includes Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Mitchell Starc, while Set 2 includes Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. All marquee players have a base price of INR 2 crore, except for South Africa’s stylish left-hander, David Miller, whose base price is INR 1.5 crore. Among all these names, which players will CSK target? Check the marquee names that the five-time champions might go for.

Rishabh Pant

Not with Delhi Capitals anymore, Rishabh Pant will now look for a new IPL jersey. There have been numerous rumors came that teams like RCB and CSK are eyeing him. If we look at CSK’s needs, they surely require a wicketkeeper-batter, as the team needs an answer to who will take over after Dhoni. This means the team is looking for someone who can dominate bowlers and also perform impressive wicketkeeping duties, just like MS did over the years. There’s no question about how Pant has risen through the ranks, performing well for the Indian team and in the IPL, where he has accumulated a total of 3,284 runs. As an acrobatic wicketkeeper, we might see CSK eyeing Pant in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Shreyas Iyer

A captain who led KKR to their third IPL trophy, Shreyas Iyer has now been released by the franchise ahead of the IPL auction and will go under the hammer. Iyer will be part of the first marquee list during the IPL auction, and there’s a good chance that this middle-order batter could attract CSK’s attention. CSK has faced some issues in recent times due to a lack of consistent middle-order batting, as players have failed to perform consistently. The team has INR 55 crore remaining, and with the money to target few high-value players, CSK will likely look to bring Iyer into the mix to strengthen their batting. Signing Shreyas Iyer would be a great option for them.

Mitchell Starc

We might see Mitchell Starc in the CSK mix, as there is space for this Aussie veteran. With Deepak Chahar no longer in the squad and Moeen Ali also not part of the team, CSK seriously needs some experienced bowlers. The team’s first and foremost need is bowling, and currently, CSK lacks quality bowlers. Yes, they have Matheesha Pathirana, but still, in the past, we’ve seen the team concede more than 200 runs, and they will look to address this issue soon. It will be interesting to see how CSK approaches the IPL 2025 mega auction and which marquee players they target.
