3 Indian legends who did not get farewell game

Ravichandran Ashwin has also joined the list of Indian legends who did not receive a farewell match before announcing their retirement.

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement after the India vs Australia 3rd Test during the press conference. When the third Test ended in a draw on Tuesday, Ashwin bid farewell to his international career. However, it came as a surprise, as no one had anticipated that the legend would say goodbye without a proper farewell.

Ashwin wasn’t the only Indian player who deserved a proper farewell, considering his significant contributions to Indian cricket. Here are three other players who should have received a fitting send-off.

India’s legends who did not get farewell

MS Dhoni

The image of Dhoni walking off the field in tears after his run-out in the 2019 World Cup semifinal is unforgettable. While there were suspicions, not everyone was certain that it marked the end of his career. After that match, Dhoni took some time off, and in 2020, he made his retirement official by announcing it on social media.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj played in the ODIs in the West Indies in 2017 but soon disappeared from the selectors’ attention. He struggled to make a comeback for nearly two years before announcing his retirement in 2019. Sadly, there was no farewell for the player who had been instrumental in securing two World Cup victories for India.

Rahul Dravid

After India’s disappointing tour of Australia in 2012, Dravid sensed that his time in cricket was coming to an end. Following a challenging Test series and at the age of 39, he recognized the inevitable. Without hesitation, he held a press conference to announce his retirement, choosing a humble exit without a farewell match or grand farewell—just a straightforward announcement.
